TSPS Chapter 12 Gathers at Texas A&M Corpus Christi for Exclusive Tours at Bell Library

TSPS Chapter 12 recently hosted a well-attended and engaging chapter event at the Mary and Jeff Bell Library on the campus of Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. The event brought together surveying professionals, students, and industry partners for meaningful conversation, networking, and a look ahead at exciting developments within our local community.

We were especially grateful to CBI, who generously sponsored the meal for the event. Their support helped create a welcoming and relaxed environment where attendees could focus on connection and collaboration.

A Look Ahead: Bell Library’s New Downtown Location

During the event, Director of Special Collections and Archives Lori Podolsky from the Mary and Jeff Bell Library shared exciting news about their new downtown Corpus Christi location, which is currently under construction. This future space represents a significant step forward for the library and the community it serves.

The new downtown location will offer:

  • Extended operating hours

  • Improved accessibility

  • Increased visibility and community engagement

By moving downtown, the library will be better positioned to serve the public, researchers, students, and professionals who rely on its resources—including historical maps, surveying records, and unique regional artifacts.

We are also thrilled to announce that TSPS Chapter 12 plans to host next year’s chapter event in this new space, once construction is complete. We’re excited about the opportunity to continue our partnership with the library in a setting that reflects its growth and expanded mission.

Supporting the Preservation of Maps and Historical Artifacts

A key part of the library’s work involves the preservation of historic maps, documents, and artifacts—many of which are directly tied to surveying, land development, and the history of South Texas. Preservation efforts are both time-intensive and costly, requiring specialized materials, climate-controlled storage, and expert care to ensure these irreplaceable resources remain available for future generations.

To support this important work, we encourage our members and the broader community to consider making a donation to the library.

April Donation Campaign

All donations made through Chapter 12's website during the month of April will go directly toward supporting the Bell Library’s preservation efforts. Every contribution—large or small—helps offset the expenses associated with conserving historic materials and ensures continued access to these valuable resources.

Supporting the library is an investment in education, history, and the surveying profession itself.
